In Boekel Ecovillage we have proven everybody can live sustainably whatever their wealth or lack thereof. That’s why we only have 36 social rental houses. If you cannot afford the rent, the government can support you with a rent allowance.
We are a project of VrijCoop, an association of communities. All the rent income that remains at the end of the year after the monthly interest and repayment of loans have been paid and a small amount is reserved for maintanance, is used to finance starting communities. In Germany it exists for more that 32 years and around 200 communities participate. Each year they invest millions in starting communities.
We also share washing machines and cars and the food from the food garden is free!
