SDG14 Life below water

Breaking down medicine residues in our wastewater
There are more and more medicine residues in the waste water that affect life in our rivers and the water boards are having a lot of difficulty breaking them down properly. In fact the water quality of our rivers, ponds and streams has the lowest quality in the EU. Our constructed wetland or helophyte filter breaks down most of medicine remains. It is then allowed to infiltrate into the soil at 3 to 6 meters below ground level where bacteries and funghy will break it down even more.

Sustainable fish farm
Greenpeace has written a report with tips for a sustainable fish farm. We are still thinking about making this fish farm by following all those tips. Greenpeace has told us: ‘If you make a success out of that, you will have a solution to the overfishing of the seas!’

Do you want Ad Vlems to explain more about his experience of this SDG and how to implement this SDG yourself in your own project or community?
